Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck the new king of tailgating?

It absolutely could be. (And don't worry, we'll get right on testing for that.)

Honda's newest truck hit the scene in Franklin, Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Madison TN after last month's Detroit Auto Show, and it hit the scene hard. The excitement generated came about through more than just seeing a legend reborn; after a few years on hiatus, this unibody pickup truck is back and better than ever.

It brings a 3.5-liter V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as a pretty impressive set of features and tech options within the interior, and niceties like leather trim and a touchscreen infotainment system with new smartphone connectivity.

But, so what? Lots of trucks are available these days with capability and a taste of luxury.

So what sets the Honda Ridgeline apart from other midsize pickup trucks? Well, it's all about the fun factor:

  • A dual-action rear tailgate--open it down or open to the side
  • Built-in, water-tight, fully drainable in-bed trunk
  • An industry-first in-bed stereo system

So, is the 2017 Ridgeline the new ultimate party truck?

Fortunately, you'll get the privilege to find out for yourself within the coming months, as this new Honda pickup is expected to go on sale closer to the end of 2016, though we do not have an official release date for the Ridgeline just yet. We believe that it will be able to easily go toe-to-toe with other similarly-sized trucks from Chevrolet or Toyota, geared toward truck drivers who utilize their vehicles more often for play than for work.
