We like to think we know a thing or two about racing, after all the namesake of Darrell Waltrip Honda is known as one of the greatest all around drivers ever to race, and has been inducted into numerous motorsports Hall of Fames.
It's only right that Darrell Waltrip's name is attached to the Honda brand, because just like the driver, our automaker has had some amazing success in all facets of racing. One in particular is the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC), where the Japanese automaker has taken the team and manufacturer titles for four years straight.
The past three winning seasons the drivers have piloted a souped up Civic, so to continue the success, Honda is once again turning to a version of this model.
The base for the new BTCC racer will be the Euro-spec Civic Tourer Wagon, and will mark the only wagon-based car used by a team in the circuit. The team manager of the Honda Yuasa Racing team, Peter Crolla, stated that the only real change with the new model will be a longer roofline, and that "The weight, wheelbase, layout and suspension remain the same."1
The new Civic Tourer Wagon will need to be tested before the reigns are handed to champions Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal. If all goes well look for the new BTCC racer to hit the track in the season opener late March at Brands Hatch in the UK.
We wish the entire Honda Yuasa Racing team luck this year, and we surely will update you on the racing results from this season here on our blog, so check back.
While the Civic Tourer Wagon used on the track would not be street legal here in Franklin, Tennessee, we do have some incredible legal rides in our inventory of new Honda vehicles. Come check them out today, and if any catch your eye the professionals in our finance center can help you through the entire buying or leasing process.
