Honda has been working on its HondaJet, which it calls the "Civic of the Skies" for quite some time now, but the plane is drawing closer to its eventual production date. Recently, according to The Wall Street Journal, a fifth jet was completed and is now going through a testing process.

The HondaJet is clearly a Honda creation. The jet utilizes a variety of automotive production techniques, and it focuses on fuel economy and value. Inside, various trim levels will be offered, though all exteriors will be the same.  The plane is expected to outperform many of its jet rivals in terms of fuel usage. It will also only be priced around $4.5 million.

The fifth jet prototype is going through "function and reliability" testing, which is an advanced phase of testing that concentrates on cabin controls and interior attributes.

There is still the matter of certification, which means that, despite the advanced testing, means that the plane won't be approved until the second half of 2014. That's a year later than the previous estimate, but Darrell Waltrip Honda feels that it's certainly worth waiting for. After all, it seems that the HondaJet will be the closest we get to a flying Honda Civic in the near future!
